The Role:

As an Environmental Enforcement Officer, you will be responsible for investigating and enforcing breaches of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and related legislation. Your primary focus will be on tackling issues such as fly-tipping, littering, waste management offenses, and other environmental infringements. This is a dynamic role that requires strong investigative skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • -Enforcement Activities: Investigate reports of environmental offenses, gather evidence, and take appropriate enforcement action in accordance with relevant legislation and organizational policies.
  • -Fly-tipping and Littering: Proactively patrol designated areas to identify and address instances of fly-tipping and littering. Issue fixed penalty notices and prepare case files for prosecution where necessary.
  • -Waste Management: Monitor compliance with waste management regulations, including the illegal disposal of waste and the operation of unlicensed waste sites.
  • -Investigations: Conduct thorough investigations, including gathering witness statements, collecting physical and photographic evidence, and preparing detailed reports.
  • -PACE Interviews: Conduct interviews with suspects under Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) guidelines.
  • -Court Attendance: Attend court hearings to present evidence and act as a witness on behalf of the prosecuting authority.
  • -Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise effectively with local authorities, police forces, community groups, and members of the public to raise awareness of environmental issues and encourage compliance.
  • -Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of investigations, enforcement actions, and outcomes.
  • -Legislation Updates: Stay informed about changes in environmental legislation and best practices in enforcement.
